Barcelona “totally transformed” by hosting 1992 Olympic GamesHosting the 1992 Olympic Games “totally transformed” Barcelona, according to the city’s mayor, Xavier Trias. Speaking at the Global Sports Forum in March, Trias revealed how the Games created a long-term sporting legacy for the city, increasing sports participation and leading to more major events being held in Barcelona.

Winning so many medals?
Larysa Latynina is the only athlete, in any sport, to have a collection of 18 Olympic medals, including nine gold. The Ukrainian gymnast won six medals at each of the three editions of the Games in which she participated. Lining up the records, she is also the only person to have won 14 medals in individual events.
