THIS WEEK: We’re now embarking on the last week of new technical material! Last week, we saw how to plan when our actions are uncertain, using a known probability distribution over possible outcomes to weigh consequences. This week, these ideas culminate in reinforcement learning, where not only are our actions uncertain in the sense that they have multiple possible outcomes, but we do not even know what those outcomes are until we try them. As a result, our agents must experiment and learn, trading off between exploration (which gains new knowledge) and exploitation (which makes use of current knowledge). In the process of scaling up to large state spaces, we’ll see one of the most common techniques in machine learning: feature-based representations.

This week’s timeline is as follows:

As in past weeks, secondary video processing, which includes captioning, will release a few days after the original video releases.

We also want congratulate all participants in the P1 mini-contest! We received a lot of very strong submissions. Special congratulations to the top three: ksuszka (first place), and CarbonTwelve and nataraja (tied for second)! This post lists the top twenty-one and expands on some of the ideas that went into the top-scoring submissions.

Gobernación del Valle del Cauca inicia “viernes de la cultura”

“Viernes de la Cultura”, una de las más importantes iniciativas del Gobernador del Valle del Cauca Ubeimar Delgado en el campo cultural, iniciará de manera simultánea este viernes dos de noviembre a las cinco de la tarde en la plaza principal de los municipios de Jamundí y El Cerrito.

El programa busca crear un espacio de esparcimiento, encuentro e intercambio con nuestras expresiones culturales y facilitar el acceso gratuito de los vallecaucanos al disfrute de la música de las diferentes regiones de nuestro departamento.

“Viernes de la Cultura” iniciará en Jamundí con la presentación de los grupos locales Tierra de Aguas, la Bamba y la Escuela de Música de la Casa de la Cultura, quienes serán los anfitriones en esta ocasión.

“Como grupos invitados llevaremos a las Cantadoras del Pacífico, el show de bailarines de salsa de la academia “Salsa Viva y Tango Vivo” y la Orquesta Sol y Rumba que será la encargada de cerrar esta fiesta vallecaucana”, afirmó la Secretaria de Cultura del Valle del Cauca, Fabiola Perdomo Estrada.

En el Cerrito el grupo anfitrión será la chirimía “Platino y Son” y como invitados especiales la Gobernación del Valle del Cauca presentará a la Banda Departamental de Bellas Artes, el grupo del pacífico Corculguapi y la orquesta Yamboré.

Los siguientes “Viernes de la Cultura” serán el 9 de noviembre en el municipio de Dagua, en el marco de la Feria de la Piña, El Águila el 16 de noviembre y Caicedonia y Roldanillo el 30 de noviembre.
